Opinions, strong opinions in regards to my passions. Leadership, efficiency, Australian football and horse racing. Plus a little piece of life in the Book of Zyrg.
Zyrg with daughter Calliope
From A to Z
Who or what is a Zyrg I hear you ask? Well Zyrg is me, a real person, who has had the same nick name for over 40 years, way longer than that cartoon impostor, U know who I mean.
My mum calls me by my real name as do do my work colleagues these days but my mates call me Zyrg. You can call me Zyrg as well. The etymology of the name is unimportant. What is important is that I am here to share my opinions and they are strongly held opinions at times and to also offer an insight into my passions, the Zyrg way.
I try to learn something new every day and encourage this in others, I hope I can help you learn something new as well. Questions are Golden and you cannot ask enough of them.
Browse around the site and with any sort of luck we can learn together, improve ourselves and improve the world. It’s all about Continuous Improvement. Whatever the subject.
Another of my daily habits is to dance for 20 to 30 seconds every day. Just because.
Below is a brief introduction to some of my passions. My expanded thoughts and visions can be found by clicking further.
If you would like any further thoughts or information on any of the topics, just send me an email at the address shown at the bottom of each page.
The Australian Football League hosts the game, colloquilly known as footy, played at its highest level among the elite players that represent 18 Clubs.
Each State or Territory of Australia hosts games throughout the season with most States having teams permanently residing within them.
Footy is more than a game, it’s a type of religion.
Any Australian Football League supporter will tell you that it is “the greatest game on earth”. It invokes a passion like no other sport does in the traditional Aussie Rules States of Australia. The States newer to this weekly winter ritual have quickly caught the fever.
If the supporters are passionate, the players are supreme athletes with mid fielders covering marathon like distances each game.
Old timers will tell you the game is now soft but wasn’t everything better in the old days? The game is still a very physical game and played without protective equipment.
Don’t worry if this fantastic game is new to you, we will explain all the basics from on field positions, the rules (prepare for many grey areas) and the unique scoring system. Choose your team, learn the basics and become another rabid fan.

Efficiency
I am an efficiency nut. I detest to see anyone wasting time when someone is paying for their time. I hate to see company owners and workplace management wasting workers time and then asking why nothing is getting done.

Leadership
Is there such a thing as a born leader? We never hear the term “nurtured leaders”. Can leadership be learnt? What makes a leader? Conversely is there such a thing as a bad leader?
My thoughts on leadership can be found in the Leadership area of this site.
My aim is to pinch, poke and generally provoke your inner thoughts on leadership. We will hear from leaders and digest their offerings.
I want to develop leaders of the future. My belief is that true leadership is all about challenging the Status Quo.
Call us what you will. Gamblers, punters, investors or wastrels, it’s all the same to the non player. I will use the word, to start, punters. We have all had punting systems, media personalities that we have followed or the latest bankroll management system. What we have in common is that we never followed them for too long. The next get rich quick system piqued our interest and we veered down another path.
At Trigger’s Stable we have the discpline to stick with the plan. Our method of collecting data is based on Lean methodology. This means the only changes we make are researched and follow our belief in Continuous Improvement.
The Stable will give you winners on the punt. We concentrate our form study to one race type. We concentrate our form study on races over selected distances. We combine our form study with real data.

Judicious Selections
Both simple and complex systems that can work, work for one reason. That reason is that a number of rules have been set. These systems are not hindered by frivalous information, these systems are arranged in a set order, these systems then have their set of rules cleaned up and standardised. These systems are then sustained and only changed by looking at the data and yes, subject to Continuous Improvement.
Go ahead, click through to Trigger’s Stable to find out more.
Through a combination of factors, Triggers Stable hands commenced keeping data in March 2021. The stablehands have collected terra bytes of information since and have analysed this data to discover where the winners come from. A number of stables have been constructed since. This information is not available until a stable hand has studied the data and continuously improved it.
We make judicious selections and we also know at what price punters should place a bet. We are successful punters by standardising our methodolgy and sustaining the standards we set.
Lean Punting at its best
Do you have the time to do the work necessary to win on the punt? Let Trigger and his stable hands do the work for you.
Our first experience with the punt was through our Uncle Vin. Each year the extended family trekked the miles to Barwon Heads and Uncle Vin was the punter amongst them. It was his form guide, filled with numbers, boxes and Vin’s indecipherable scribble that garnered my attention. What was it all about, what did it all mean? I started my investigation and unknowing at the time, my lifelong fascination with punting.
In 1961, the Victorian TAB (Totalisator Agency Board) was established, legalising off-course betting, I would have been following Vin for nine or ten years later when he was putting on his bets. His system was simple, a Daily Double 4 and 2 and a further Daily Double 2 and 4. I cannot remember the bet amount. The system was simple; he lived in a house that was number 42 on the street he resided.
Two years later Uncle Bob joined the crew camping at the Heads. Another punter, he only punted on horse that that 04 as their last two starts in the form guide.
Systems can be simple.
The flip side to Bob and Vin’s simple systems was Bill Benter (I really want to call him Uncle Bill), the punter who “cracked the code” by inventing an algorithm that couldn’t lose at the track. Bill and his team took out the Hong Kong racing Club’s Triple Trio, picking the first three horses across the line, in any order, in three selected races. The odds, that day of doing so, were approximately 10 million to 1. It paid 16 million to 1.
Systems can be complex.
That’s me! What to expect here? Probably ranting, ravings, personal news and views. If it doesn’t fit in any other section or even if it does you will find it here. One thing I can assure you that you will find here is a regular update on what ordinary folk are “outraged” about. You might even find a bit of my click bait here. Favorite books and other stories, a little piece of Greek tragedy and some good news stories, a hodge podge of life, the one place where you may not find efficiency or continous improvement. Have at it!
